It was windy, rainy, and cold...but that did not slow down the scoring today on Senior Day vs. Spectrum. Mikki Berscheit started the game out with the first goal followed by another goal by Amy Conard. Mikki ended up with 2 goals for the game, then Macy Eigen got in the book for her first goal of the season. Lauren Sticha also put one in from outside the penalty box for her first varsity goal. Rachel Vogl had 2 goals and Megan Peterson put her first goal in of her varsity career. The game ended with one soaking wet team and fans a 8-0 result.
Macy Eigen was awarded Bulldog Player of the Game after putting in her first varsity goal. Macy has been playing center mid and has really started taking charge in the middle. She has had to adapt to playing center mid in a different formation the team is playing and really taking more responsibility within that role. Looking forward to many more Macy Eigen goals!
Due to the pouring rain and wind...the JV team played a shortened game vs. Spectrum. In the 40 minute game the team put in 7 goals. Ali Zimmer and Rielly Cencer scored 2 goals each. Sidney Eich, Jasmine Tubbs, and Becca Owens scored their first goal of the season. Great muddy team effort.
Jasmine Tubbs was awarded Bulldog Player of the game. She has become playing more offensive as an outside defender and has been able to make runs up and look to create opportunities in our offensive half. She did just that today with an outside shot that found the back of the net in the rain and wind. Keep up the intensity Jasmine!
Varsity ended up five goals behind Zimmerman on Thursday. The team had lots of moments where they looked like they were controlling the ball and the game but Zimmerman was able to put away their chances and Becker came up short.
Megan Dudek was awarded the Bulldog Player of the Game for her great saves under a lot of shot pressure last night. Dudek had 14 saves for the game. Dudek has really improved and continues to improve every game. It is exciting to think she
The JV Team found the net 6 times in the game vs. Zimmerman. The team looked ready from the first whistle and used the high winds to their advantage. It was 4-0 at the half. Zimmerman had some almost goals but Jasmine (JJ) Browning made some spectacular and acrobatic saves in net to keep the shut out. The team played well together...moving the ball up the field and finding the open passes up top. There were 2 Bulldog Players of the Games awarded. Claire Voigt found the back of the net 3 times and ended the game with a Hat trick. She scored on 2 breakaways where she was able to control the ball and slide her shot in the net. She also had a great shot from outside and it was unstoppable shot in no keeper land to the upper left corner. JJ Browning also received the Bulldog trophy for her great saves in the back. She made some important saves that could have changed the game had they gone in.
The Varsity loses a tough one 0-2. They couldn't take care of their opportunities to score and were not able to make the defensive adjustments on the field to keep the Hornets from scoring. The team did not name a Bulldog Player of the Game. This was a game the team was hoping to compete in and get a win. Hopefully they can get geared up and ready for their other 2 games this week. Go Varsity girls....get fired up and lets score some goals!
Hailey Fitzpatrick was awarded Bulldog Player of the Game. Hailey has been asked to double up positions as an outside back, she has been solid defensively and she also adds a dynamic attacking option when she overlaps. Keep working hard Hailey!
The JV team had a great start to the game. They controlled the ball the majority of the half. Big Lake did not get it out of their defensive half until 8 minutes into the game. But despite the possession of the ball, we were not looking to get shots off and ended the half behind in shots on goal to Big Lake's 3 shots. 2nd half the team was determined to get more goal scoring opportunities and took it to the Hornets, getting many chances to goal. Kylie Schmidt got her first goal of the season off of a pass from Erica Brovold and Gabby Proefrock. She was able to follow in the shot and get the rebound from the goalie's save and put it in the back of the net. Becker wins 1-0. Kylie Schmidt is the Bulldog Player of the Game with the game winning goal. She was looking to score and got herself into many goal scoring opportunities. She is making runs and anticipating passes forward. She has improved in so many ways this season. Great job Kylie!
Our JV team couldn't put 2 halves together. We got outplayed 2nd half. We put up a good 1st half of soccer and besides the offsides goal for the other team, it was a pretty even half. 2nd half we came out flat and let Cathedral control the game. We hope to learn from that half. The team decided after that game that we should be playing better than that and that they will the rest of the season. Final score 0-5. Bailey Gilchrist had one of her best games. She won every 50/50 ball and stepped to the ball. She had some good defensive plays and started playing a little more offensive in some runs and balls forward. It's nice to see Bailey improving with every game.
The Varsity Girls team took on the highly skilled Cathedral team and were not able to get on the score board. Despite the goals Cathedral scored, there were some good things that happened on the field. The team needs to continue to build upon those and produce a full game. Some great individual efforts and hopefully the team can continue to learn from their loses and become smarter soccer players inn order to adjust to game situations. Keep up the effort ladies.
Mikki Berscheit had a good game. She looked to create some scoring opportunities up front and continues to show leadership and intensity on the field. Keep up the great attitude.
In the end the JV team fell to Little Falls 2-1. We started out rocky after we came out not prepared for the kick off and Little Falls netted their first goal 28 seconds in. We fought back and dominated the second half. A Penalty Kick put in by Claire Voigt put a goal on our side but we couldn't put another back in the net. Although we outshot them, we lost a close one. Hopefully we can get them next time! Kalani Bauer is awarded Bulldog Player of the game for her aggressive play and hard fought tackles. Kalani had a near goal when it hit the inside of the post. She dominated the middle of the field second half and shut down their midfields. When we controlled the middle of the field...we controlled the game and this provided us many goal scoring opportunities. Kalani does a great job switching speeds and making runs up from the back as well as getting back and pressuring the ball. Nice game Kalani!
The Varsity team ended the game 2 goals down to Little Falls. Hopefully the team can earn a win in a couple weeks when they have a re-match. Rachel Vogl earned the honor of Bulldog Player of the Game. Rachel Vogl is playing the holding midfielder position well. She is tracking back when needed and also making herself available as an outlet for the defenders. She is taking people on and has been doing a good job of using her moves to beat the defender. She looks to distribute the ball wide for the forwards to run on to.
Despite the adventures up to Biwabik, the team was still able to get some "electricity" on the field. It was a full day with the bus pulling out of Becker at 7am and arriving home about 10pm. It makes for a good story anyway..."Remember that one time up in Biwabik when we electrocuted the bus...etc. etc.!!" ha ha. Aly Fisher had a great performance in the team's 2-0 win over Eveleth-Gilbert. Aly put all her foot skills into use yesterday. She was creative and confident with the ball at our her feet as she created space and made runs up the field. She took their forwards on and beat them and was then able to find good passes. Aly continues to play an important role in each game.
The JV Team brought their record to 4-2 after they beat St. John's Prep 3-1 on Thursday. The team really stepped up the intensity 2nd half and finished their opportunities in front of the goal. They were able to put some passes together and moved the ball up the field really well. It was fun to see the team play cohesively as a team. Claire Voigt is the Bulldog Player of the Game for our team. Claire Voigt had 2 goals in the game. She continues to look to get a shot off on goal and is always looking to score or pass in front of the goal. That offensive way of thinking is how we continue to score goals. Good work Claire!
Talia Cox was enthusiastic after their hard fought 1-0 win over St. John's Prep. Talia played intense and aggressive all game. She played a huge role defensively, playing center defense the entire game. She wins first balls on the ground and in the air. She tracks down players well and makes the recovery run. Well done Talia.
It was a hard fought game but in the end we lost a close one 2-3. Stellar performances by Joey Rothstein and Kalani Bauer. Joey played a great defensive game, putting tight pressure on the ball and on the other team. Winning the ball and finding a good pass or making the run forward. Kalani had some great saves in the back and gives our defense so much confidence in the back. She makes the reliable saves and plays the ball out nicely in the back.
Megan Dudek is the player of the game vs. Detroit Lakes. She did a great job of coming out of the net to make the play and to cut off the angle. She had to come out of the box a couple times to kick a ball away on a forward on a break. She is getting more vocal and really taking command in the back. Dudek made some big saves and plays the ball at her feet like a sweeper. She keeps improving with every game. Keep up the good work Megan.
Maddie Schmidt is the Bulldog Player of the game in our JV win vs. Lutheran Mayer, 6-1. Maddie did a great job attacking with speed and dribbling into space. She netted her first goal with a lob over the goalie. Maddie plays outside mid primarily but is always ready to step in to other positions when the team needs her. Great Playing Maddy!
Sam Lorette is the Bulldog Player of the game in their 3-0 win over Mayer Lutheran. She played a very aggressive game at center back. She looks a little beat up after the game but put it all on the line for the win. She did a great job winning 50/50 balls and playing offensively at the defensive positions. Looking forward to having her back on the field this week.
