Team Expectations
- Missing Practices: Student must come see their coach before that day of practice and notify coach of plans to miss. After-school tutoring or make-ups: Student needs to let coach know before missing practice and student must bring a pass from that teacher when they do get to practice. Players are expected to be at all practices, games, team meetings, team dinners. Players have committed to the team and should make it a priority to be at practice. Missing practice may result in loss of playing time.
-All athletes must come prepared every day for practices/games. Equipment on and jewelry off.
-Traveling home on the bus with the team from most away games should be made a priority. Traveling with your teammates is part of the experience. Students need to be signed out by their parent unless previous arrangements have been made.
-All Athletes are expected to act appropriately on and off the field as they represent Becker High School.
-All Athletes are expected to follow all Becker Athletic Handbook rules and MN State High School League regulations. Academic ineligibility as well as ineligibility due to drinking and other substances are addressed in the handbook that can be found online under Becker Activities office.
-Dealing with Conflicts – Self-advocating is an important development skill. High School is an essential time to develop this skill. Players need to talk to a coach first with any concerns they may have regarding the team. Coaches will not participate in any type of communication with parents concerning playing time and team selection (including phone calls and emails) if the above order of operations is not followed. Coaches will be happy to answer additonial questions by parents after player has talked to coach with their concern.
-New Social Networking Media in Athletic Handbook. You are responsible for things you put out on social media. Please never put negative comments about team or individuals as well as opponents. Administration will have to deal with these situations if they arise and may end in suspension from play.
-Team Placement- After the first 2 weeks of the season, using coaches input and own evaluations, The coaches will place players on Varsity or J.V. to begin the season. All players will be evaluated on their level of fitness, attitude, effort, tactical awareness, individual skills, and team role. All players are eligible to compete at the varsity and junior varsity level. Placement depends on the needs of the team as well as the development of the player. All questions with regards to team placement should be with the player and the coach. Evaluations are an ongoing process throughout the season and players maybe moved up or down throughout the season depending on performance and needs of the team.

After a concussion, players must be cleared by their doctor and put on a return plan with trainer. Players who are injured are still expected to come to practices and be part of the team.
Varsity Lettering. In order to earn a varsity letter in soccer players need to play in 14 halves in a varsity game. At minimum, There are 34 halves in a season. The coach has discretion in lettering decisions if player has injuries preventing them from playing in games. Players with injuries are expected to come to all practices and team events unless arrangements have been made with the coach.
